WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – The wheat has been separated from the chaff; the cream has risen to the top.

Call it what you may. But after eight days and 54 games in the 10th ISF Junior Men’s World Championship, it has come down to this.

Argentina, New Zealand, Japan, and Australia have proven they are the four best teams in young men’s (age 19-under) fastpitch softball.

Strong arms drive Argentina past USA in ISF Junior Men’s World Championship

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – The number one team rests its number one pitcher and suffers no ill effects.

Argentina held back ace right-hander Huemul Mata, instead going with the strong-armed arsenal of Roman Godoy at the start and Franco Gini to close.

And the two were as good as Argentina could want, combining on a three-hitter to beat the USA 9-2 at the Pepsi Softball Centre in Whitehorse, Thursday.

Kiwis lauded for ‘incredibly thoughtful’ hospital visit

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – The haka – a fearsome Maori warrior dance – wouldn’t seem to mesh well with compassion. But New Zealand proved the two go hand in hand this week.

The haka – a fearsome Maori warrior dance – wouldn’t seem to mesh well with compassion. But New Zealand proved the two go hand in hand this week.

Two team leaders stopped in at the B.C. Children’s Hospital last week to lift the spirits of Marek Stehelin, a young patient from Whitehorse.

Marek, who turns three in October, is fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

“We know that those battles are tougher than what ours are at the moment,” said assistant coach Jarrad Martin.

USA stretches win-streak to three after defeating Singapore

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – Team USA jumped on Singapore for five runs in the first, survived a four-run comeback by Singapore in the third and went on take an 8-4 victory, Wednesday, at the Pepsi Softball Centre in Whitehorse.

The win stretches the Americans win streak to three and improves their record to 5-2 in the 10th ISF Junior Men’s World Championship with two games left in round robin play.

Masmu goes long ball and Argentina rolls over Japan in ISF Junior Men’s World Championship

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – Gonzalo Masmu bats in the number eight spot. But after his performance against Japan on Wednesday, Argentina management just might want to move him up a few spots.

Masmu hammered three home runs – a two run shot in the fourth inning, a three-run blast in the fifth, and for good measure another two-run homer in the seventh – to lead Argentina to an 8-1 victory over Japan.
