Japan wins 2016 Junior Men’s Softball World Championship in thrilling 2-1 victory over New Zealand

MIDLAND, Mich. – Japan defeated New Zealand, 2-1, in an electric finale to win the 11th WBSC Junior Men’s Softball World Championship in Midland, MI, USA, Saturday.

The Japan Junior Men’s Softball NationalTeam dominated the competition throughout the tournament, finishing with an undefeated record of 8-0.

    GOLD MEDAL GAME RECAP

In a close scoring game, Japan attacked first scoring one run in the second inning when Kento Morita ripped a liner up the middle to score Hirishi Sakata. The bats were silent until New Zealand tied the game up in the fourth inning as Zac Boyd singled to center to drive in Reilly Makea for a 1-1 ball game.

Big Inning Powers Japan Past USA in Junior Men’s World Championship

MIDLAND, Mich. – Japan sent 10 men to the plate in the second inning, scored five runs and parlayed that big stake into a 5-2 victory over Team USA in the first round of playoffs in the WBSC Softball Junior Men’s World Championship at Emerson Park, Friday.

Kazumasa Shirabe and Sho Ahsida delivered the damaging blows in the second, with Shirabe’s double driving in two runs, and Ashida’s bases loaded triple to deep centerfield the crowning blast that sent Team USA to defeat.

USA pulls off another thrilling win, 4-3 in nine innings over Australia

Midland, Mich. – The United States’ final pool play game began over four hours late on Wednesday, but it sure was worth the wait.

Jonathan Broadbear’s two-out RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning gave USA a thrilling 4-3 comeback victory over Australia for the Americans’ second dramatic win in front of a large crowd at Currie Stadium in as many nights at the WBSC Junior Men’s Softball World Championship.

A day after edging Czech Republic 3-2 at the stadium, USA came from behind twice against perennial power Australia in a game which was originally slated for 6 p.m. but which ended up starting after 10 p.m. after a mid-afternoon thunderstorm swept through Midland and pushed the day’s action behind schedule.

Two and a half hours and three ejections later, USA emerged with its hardest-fought victory of the tournament so far. Continue Reading

MIDLAND, Mich. – Jonathan Broadbear was struggling with the bat, no doubt, getting just one hit in his last 13 trips to the plate. But it’s not what you did in the past that counts, but what you do NOW. Especially in a game-winning situation.

And did Broadbear ever come up clutch for Team USA late Wednesday night.
