Las Vegas Road Trip X men’s fastpitch brackets finalized

LAS VEGAS – The Las Vegas Road Trip X is poised to begin on Friday with 42 teams from Mexico, Canada and the United States ready to kick off their season in the city that never sleeps.

  • Teams from throughout the U.S. are coming from Arizona, Texas, Oklahoma, Utah, Washington, New Mexico, South Dakota, Minnesota, Montana, Pennsylvania, and California.
  • Under tournament format of the North American Fastpitch Association, three divisions will battle for championships: A, A-Major, and AA / AA-Major.

    Jesse Ortiz, president of the So. California Independent Fastpitch League (SCIFL) and the Road Trip tournament director, released the brackets Monday.

  • The tournament begins Friday, April 7 at noon, with the championships scheduled for Sunday at 3 p.m.. Games are played at Sunset Park and Warm Springs Park.

    BLOOMINGTON, IL – The numbers don’t lie. A 22-3 record, 1.01 earned run average, 175 strikeouts and only 14 walks in 151 innings.

    Without question, they add up to the best start of Tim McGuire’s softball pitching career. That, he says, is what worries him.

    “The book on me is I usually throw better in July and August (than May and June),” the Bloomington Beer Nuts right-hander told a reporter at O’Neil Park, his home away from home.

    Memorial tournament to honor Cecilio E. Smalling

    To All Managers: SCIFL will be hosting its first annual Cecilio E Smalling Memorial Tournament on April 22 – 23, 2017 at Little Lake Park, Santa Fe Springs, CA.

    This tournament will have a round-robin format on Saturday followed by a single elimination on Sunday.

    Buzzards hold off WAH to take Palm Springs Classic Men’s Fastpitch Tournament

    PALMS SPRINGS, Calif. – The So Calif. Independent Fastpitch League (SCIFL) opened its 2017 season at DeMuth Park in Palm Springs on March 25-26. Ten teams took part in the Palm Springs Classic, led by long-time men’s fastpitch advocate and tournament director, Vickie Oltean.

    After Saturday’s round-robin play, WAH of the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and the Taft (CA) Buzzards emerged as the No. 1 and 2 seeds, respectively. Both powerhouses rolled through Sunday’s single-elimination playoffs undefeated into the championship.

    Led by the pitching of starter Eloy Montoya, who went three innings, and closer Sonny Perkins, the Buzzards held off WAH, 3-2, in eight innings to claim SCIFL’s first Alliance tournament of the season.
