SIOUX CITY, IOWA – He didn’t throw the hardest, didn’t have the world’s sharpest spin on the ball, but Jim Speral was one tough, dependable and talented pitcher.

Speral could be counted on to keep his team in the ball game at ISC World Tournaments.

In 1999, he pitched the the Fargo DMS Knights (3-2) to 12th place in the 48-team world tournament and finished with a 3-1 record that tied him at No. 6 among the tournament’s top pitchers.

Speral helped the Knights reach the quarterfinals of the winners bracket by beating Dolan & Murphy 2-0; Philadelphia DC Tire 4-3, and Salt Lake City Page Brake 6-3.

DMS bowed out of the tournament with losses to the runner-up Broken Bow Travelers (5-2) and Mierhoffer/Fleeman of Savannah, MO, (4-2) and finished eighth.

The Knights, primarily with a roster of North Dakota and Midwest players, represented themselves well at world tournaments.
