USA defeats Denmark in ISF Junior Men’s World Championship

DuCharmBryce Bryce DuCharme sets the tone in his lead off spot as Team USA defeats Denmark.

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – Bryce DuCharme hammered a home run over the right-field fence to lead off the game, and Team USA went on to run-rule Denmark, 13-4, Friday night in the first game of the ISF Junior Men’s World Championship for both teams.

DuCharme, a left-handed hitter from Hudson, Wisc. went 4 for 4 to lead a 10 hit attack.

Team USA had three big innings, scoring four runs in the second and fifth innings and three in the fourth.

Denmark put a run on the board in the bottom half of the first on Marc Nihoj’s RBI single, and pulled within 6-4 in the third when Tobias Holmelund blasted a three-run homer over the center-field fence.

But Zane Chason (Alma, Ga.) toughened the rest of the way. The right-hander struck out the side in the fourth and finished a clean fifth, ending the game with his seventh strikeout. He gave up four earned runs on four hits with three walks and a hit batter.

Right-hander Lukas Lohmann (0-1) took the loss for Denmark, going four innings, allowing eight earned runs on 10 hits, three walks, with eight strikeouts.

USA: DuCharme 4 for 4, 2 RBI; Tyler Stoffel 2-4, James Pernetti 1-4, 2 RBI; Tyler Bouley 1-4, 2 RBI; Blaine Milhelm 1-2, and Ryan Barnes 2-2.

DENMARK: Marc Nihoj, Anton Brown, Holmelund (home run), and Lukas Lohmann (double) each had one hit.

Team USA returns to action with a big game on Saturday against New Zealand (1-0) at 1:30 p.m. PST.
