Back Up, Back Up, Back Up…

Written by Bob on August 27th, 2014

Which I didn’t do.

Failing to follow the advice I give to other photographers, I didn’t back up the photos I took at the 2014 NAFA World Series on a portable drive.

And three days after the tournament ended my Macbook laptop won’t turn on. And of course that’s where all the photos are stored.

According to a Mac repair person the logic board is the culprit and is very costly to fix. Upwards of $500 or more. And the computer is worth less than that.

So until further notice don’t ask for photos. I have none to give nor sell.

If I decide to fix the computer and recover the photos, I’ll let you know.

For you photogs, I repeat: back up those irreplaceable photos.

“And do as I say, not as I do.”

Try doing a file transfer onto a thumb drive or new CPU. Best Buy was able to do that on my last two machines that crashed.

Thanks Tony, I’m taking it to a Mac repair person and see what he can do.

any word? Sorry to hear about your hardware, and your hard work put in, and lost on that computer.

It’s a bummer, but could have been much worse if it had gone out during the NAFA World Series. And I believe I can salvage the hard drive and get the photos copied (so I’ve been told). It’s in the Mac shop right now, and I waiting for “autopsy.”
