Yusef Davis jump starts Peligro Gremlins to impressive victory in ISC World Tournament

MOLINE, IL – Nervous? Perhaps feeling a little anxious playing in his first ISC World Tournament? Apparently not. Yusef Davis, just 21 and batting leadoff went 3-for-3 with a two RBI and a run scored to lead the Peligro Gremlins to a 8-0 victory over the Wiarton Nationals, Saturday, at Green Valley Sports Complex.

The win moves the ISC’s No. 8 ranked Gremlins of Staten Island, New York into Monday’s round at 4 p.m. to take on the winner between the Pueblo Bandits and Circle Tap that will be played Sunday.

The Gremlins broke open the game in the top of the first inning by sending 10 batters to the plate and scoring six runs. Davis, Bryce Kay, and Matt Ratliff all reached safely on singles to load the bases. Derrick Zechman was hit by a pitch, scoring Davis. Then bases loaded walks to Trevor Kelly and Justin Krenzke, followed by John Schrelber’s fielder’s choice brought in three more runs.

And that brought Davis back to the left-side batter’s box where he singled driving in Krenzke for the final run of the inning. Peligro added another pair of runs, highlighted by Trevor Kelly’s home run in the second. Meanwhile, B.J. Hunhoff twirled a gem, allowing just one hit to Cole McDougall, walking two and striking out nine.

The game was shortened to five innings uder the run rule with Andy Jackson taking the loss, allowing six earned runs with two walks and five strikeouts.
