Kobe’s pitches ritzy sports watches

YUCAIPA, CA – I saw on the news that Lakers star, Kobe Bryant, has teamed up with Swiss watchmaker Nubeo to promote a limited edition line of sports watches ranging in price from $25,000 to nearly $300,000.

Was anyone else repulsed by the announcement? Especially during these hard times.

The U.S. unemployment rate is at about 10%. Nearly 11 million Americans are out of work. People are desperate to hang on to their jobs. Many are struggling to keep their homes and feed their children.

I wonder: Who would be so brazen in these tough times to purchase something that costs more than the price of buying a home for most low to middle income Americans?

We have yet another example of glut and ego at a level that is so repulsive it makes me want to vomit. Is it not possible for professional athletes to turn down an endorsement now and then for the sake of decency and modesty?

Here’s some advice Kobe: If you’re going to be Nubeo’s partner and pitchman, I encourage you to donate a fair share of your “earnings” to the disadvantaged in our society.

You know, those out-of-work fans of yours now struggling just to survive. Kids who look up at you with stars in their eyes and can only dream of owning a pair of your sneakers ($75 to $150).

Kids whose parents can no longer afford Lakers tickets.
