BRISTOL, Wisc. – Over 130 men’s softball teams play the fastpitch version in Wisconsin, and on those teams, the anchor is the pitcher. Without a pitcher, there is no fastpitch team.

And if a team has a hurler with talent that usually transpires into success.

For many years, Willkomm Mobil of Kenosha has been fortunate to have Todd Lubkeman anchoring its pitching staff. The big right-hander – about 6-foot-6, throws the ball hard with all the accompanying assortment of batter-baffling spinners – riser, curve, drop and change-up.

Over the years, Lubkeman has been as productive a pitcher as any Wisconsin has ever produced. 2016 was no exception.

Lubkeman had an outstanding season pitching in several Wisconsin NAFA tournaments, and as such was selected Wisconsin NAFA Pitcher of The Year. He joins T.J. Nereng, Player of The Year, and Bud Olson, Manager of The Year.

In 2016 Wisconsin NAFA tournaments, Lubkeman had a 4-1 record in 29.66 innings, with a 0.94 ERA, along with 44 strikeouts, 14 hits allowed, four earned runs and seven walks. (He was not allowed to pitch in the NAFA state tournament because of a pitching restriction limited to no higher than a A-Major rating. Lubkeman is rated a AA hurler.)

“The team (Willkomm Mobil) wouldn’t be where it is without Todd,” says his long-time teammate Mark Nelson. “He is the type of pitcher that steps up to challenges. He would rather go out and face a team like Circle Tap (ISC open rated) than pitch an easier game against a lower level team. Todd always looks to pitch against better teams and make himself better.”

Throughout his long career, Lubkeman has earned many an award: he’s a NAFA World Series championship pitcher and was selected to NAFA’s 20-year anniversary team. He has also earned NAFA All-World several times, and in 2014 he was inducted into the NAFA Hall of Fame, along with his good friend Nelson.

Willkomm Mobil has since joined forces with Optimum Crush, but Lubkeman still remains the ball club’s No. 1 pitcher. Jerrod Dulmes, who plays outfield with the Willkomm / Optimum contingent has seen Lubkeman at his best for many years.

“His size is a big asset,” said Dulmers an outfielder and pitcher. “He throws in the upper 70s has great control and pitch selection. He carries us and has been very loyal to the team (since joining Willkomm in 1992).”
