Step Back In Time: Keg Bar Captures Prairie Du Chien Title

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, Wisc. – The Keg Bar fastpitch softball team downed four straight opponents, including S&H of La Crosse to take the Prairie du Chien Minor Tournament title over the weekend.

The Keg plundered three unknowns before facing S&H in the championship, rapping the La Crosse Classic League foes 8-4 for the crown.

The Keg ripped off seven quick runs in the first three innings to put the game out of reach. Doug Gardner had two hits with a homer in three tries while Jeff Koeller and Ron Czechowicz each had three safeties in four raps.

Kelley’s total included two doubles. Merle Hale did the honors on the mound for The Keg.

Paul Daffinson also pulled down the Most Valuable Player of the tourney title. Daffinson cracked a homer in the first game to bring his season total to eight.

The Keg topped Cresco, Iowa 3-1 in the first contest with Daffinson and Grouch slashing home runs and Gardner hitting three-for-four.

Mike Geary pitched eight strikeouts in the first game to keep Cresco under wraps.

The Keg came out on top of Darlington 4-1 in the second game with Nook Blank and Czechowicz hitting two-for-three and Mike Birnbaum pitching.

The Keg ripped Midway Bar of Winona 7-1 in the semifinal with Gardner, Koeller, Blank and Czechowicz all going two-for-three with Gardner and Koeller cracking doubles.

Geary spun a two-hitter with seven strikeouts to pick up the win.
