Wilber Lime wins seventh title in Rice Lake Aquafest

RICE LAKE, WI – It was the same two teams – Wilber Lime of Galesville and The Bar of Appleton Athletics – who locked horns in the championship game a year ago; and who now met once again, battling for the 34th annual 2012 Aquafest Men’s Fastball crown, June 15-17 at Tate Park in Rice Lake.

But this time the result was reversed as Wilber – the winners of six previous Invitational titles – rallied from a 7-2 second inning deficit to prevail in a slugfest, 15-7.

Galesville won four consecutive games beginning with a 9-2 win over the Minnesota Mudhens from St. Paul and followed that with a 2-1, 8-inning victory over Boulevard Fastpitch, also of St. Paul.

A 10-3 win over the Rice Lake Orangemen in the winner’s bracket final propelled them into the championship clash.

The Athletics rolled to an opening round 11-5 win over the Farmington Gators but fell into the loser’s bracket after dropping a 4-2 decision to the Rice Lake Orangemen. Wins over J&D Tube Benders of Schofield, 9-0, Farmington 7-0, and a revenge game with Rice Lake, 4-1, set up the championship game rematch.

The Orangemen placed third and Farmington fourth in the 11-team event that also featured the La Crosse Athletics, Pate Bonding from West St. Paul, Dugout Bar and Grill from Cushing, and Sawdust City from Eau Claire.
