FARGO, ND – Brady Woods fired a two-hitter and struck out 15 in leading the Winnipeg Bullets to a 5-1 victory over the West Fargo Knights in Friday night’s opener of the NAFA Open – Holm Classic Men’s Fastpitch Tournament.

The Knights lone run came on third baseman Matt Johnson’s solo home run in the second. But the rest of the way, Woods was tough, allowing only Matt Oxley’s sixth inning triple.

The Bullets’ offense scored three runs in the bottom of the second to break a 1-1 tie and to give Woods all the run support he would need. Jason Plett singled and later stole home; Bryce Graham doubled home a run, and eventually scored on a passed ball.

The Bullets picked up a solo run in the first on Stephen Seslak’s run-scoring hit, and Jay Dewis finished the Bullets scoring by plating Bab Lanoie with an RBI single in the third.

New Zealander, Jackson Prime, went the distance for West Fargo, allowing just six hits and two earned runs, while striking out eight and walking one. But three errors proved costly for the West Fargo.

Winnipeg was led by Dewis, who went 2-for-3 with a run and RBI; Graham, 1-3, run, RBI; Seslak, 1-2, RBI; Plett, 1-3, run; and Gavin Smith 1-3.

Winnipeg (1-0) returns to action at Lindenwood Park in Fargo on Saturday against the Saskatoon Diamondbacks at 2 p.m., while West Fargo (0-1) takes on the Sooke Loggers at noon.
