Wilber Lime and Santa Rosa marching through AA and A-Major brackets

DES MOINES – Wilber Lime of Galesville, Wisc. is no stranger to high finishes in the NAFA World Series. And so far they are marching toward a possible championship in the AA Division by posting three wins Thrusday and Friday.

The Galesville squad beat Bronx, Palazzon’s Java House, and Napanee to set up a semifinal meeting with Willkomm (Wisc.) at 2:40 p.m., Saturday at Greater Des Moines Softball Complex. Willkomm has won twice to advance. The championship is scheduled for 6 p.m.tonight at Great Des Moines.

Santa Rosa (Calif.) Fastpitch has won four games led by the pitching of Mark Bennett, Ed Gasper and Justin Zimmerman to reach the final of the upper A-Major bracket where they will take on the Bronx at 6 p.m. at Greater Des Moines. The winner will play right again in the winners bracket final at 7:40.

Some of Santa Rosa’s highlights include home runs by brothers Brian Mackler and Danny Mackler, who both hit two, two-run homers to beat Lancaster (PA) 5-2. Bennett picked up the win with seven strikeouts.

Santa Rosa also knocked off a very good Preston Merchants of Minnesota, 4-1, with Ed Gasper getting the win. Sean Mandolesi led off the game for Santa Rosa by belting a home run.
