Argentina repeats as International Softball Federation Junior Men’s World Champions

argentina Argentina won its second consecutive Gold Medal in the International Softball Federation (ISF) Junior Men’s World Championship by defeating New Zealand, 9-0, Sunday at the Pepsi Softball Centre in Whitehorse, Canada.

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – Argentina was slowed down but they couldn’t be stopped.

After losing Saturday to New Zealand, 3-1, in the semi-finals of the playoffs, Argentina came roaring back with a vengeance on Sunday.

And New Zealand felt the brunt of it.

Mighty Masmu sends Argentina into gold medal game against New Zealand

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – Argentina’s Gonzalo Masmu was nicknamed the “Mighty Masmu” after he hit three home runs and drove in seven runs against Japan in an 8-1 win during round-robin play of the ISF Junior Men’s World Championship.

If there was any doubt he deserved that title then, those doubts were erased Sunday afternoon in the Bronze medal game.

Johnston leads New Zealand past Argentina into Gold Medal game

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – Argentina swept through the ISF Junior Men’s World Championship undefeated in round-robin play. The hitters scored 66 runs, while the pitching staff did not allow a single run in the first six games, and only three the rest of the way.

Japan knocks out Australia in ISF Junior Men’s World Championship playoffs

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA –Kento Okazaki is one of the best pitchers in the ISF Junior Men’s World Championship. Give him a couple runs and Japan has a good chance of winning. Give him a couple of touchdowns and it’s guaranteed.

Strong arms drive Argentina past USA in ISF Junior Men’s World Championship

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – The number one team rests its number one pitcher and suffers no ill effects.

Argentina held back ace right-hander Huemul Mata, instead going with the strong-armed arsenal of Roman Godoy at the start and Franco Gini to close.

And the two were as good as Argentina could want, combining on a three-hitter to beat the USA 9-2 at the Pepsi Softball Centre in Whitehorse, Thursday.

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – The haka – a fearsome Maori warrior dance – wouldn’t seem to mesh well with compassion. But New Zealand proved the two go hand in hand this week.

The haka – a fearsome Maori warrior dance – wouldn’t seem to mesh well with compassion. But New Zealand proved the two go hand in hand this week.

Two team leaders stopped in at the B.C. Children’s Hospital last week to lift the spirits of Marek Stehelin, a young patient from Whitehorse.

Marek, who turns three in October, is fighting acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a cancer of the blood and bone marrow.

“We know that those battles are tougher than what ours are at the moment,” said assistant coach Jarrad Martin.

Pernetti powers USA past Japan in ISF Junior Men’s World Championship

WHITEHORSE, YUKON, CA – When runners get on base, it’s the clean up batter’s job to drive them in.

Job well done Jim Pernetti.

Batting in the number four spot, the right-side power-hitter blasted a two-run homer in the first inning, and drove in two more runs with a bases-loaded single to center in the fourth.
