Clyde Bennett and his Young Bucks return to NAFA for a run at the 23-Under title

SANTA BARBARA, CA – For the past several years, Clyde Bennett has thought, this is it. This will be the last year he’s taking his Young Bucks to the NAFA 23-Under World Series. But like a grandfather who can’t say no to the pleadings of his grandchildren, Bennett is talked into going.

“I have kids who played for me in the 23-Under, and they tell other young kids how much fun they had,” said Bennett. “And the younger ones say, ‘you did it for those guys, why not us?’ The kids just won’t let me give it up.”

Missouri holds off California in NAFA 23-Under World Series thriller

Northwest Implement of Maryville, Missouri, the 2012 NAFA 23-Under World Series Champions.

TOPEKA, KS – Northwest Implement came to the NAFA World Series with just nine players, but those nine had what pitcher Brody Abell calls, “the want.”

And that desire carried the Maryville, Missouri fastpitch team to a thrilling eight inning, 7-6 victory over the California Young Bucks in the championship game of the 2012 NAFA 23-Under World Series, August 19 in Topeka, Kansas.

“We got timely hitting, put up runs when we needed, and we had solid pitching,” said Northwest catcher Colby Miller, who caught every game and was 1-0 pitching with 13 strikeouts. “This was the solidest hitting we’ve had all year.”

Young stars of men’s fastpitch take center stage in NAFA World Series

The face of the future of men’s fastpitch, those young players under 23 years old, who will one day replace our retiring veterans.

TOPEKA, KS – Eight teams representing the future stars of men’s fastpitch softball will battle for the title of “World Series” champion in the NAFA age 23-Under tournament, Aug. 17-19 in Topeka, Kansas.

The eight teams will compete in two pools with a three-game guarantee to determine seeding in a playoff bracket. The playoffs begin later Saturday night and conclude with the championship scheduled for Sunday at 1:15 p.m.

    3. Choctaw Warriors, Oklahoma
    4. M. Jamison & Free Agent All Stars

    POOL B
    1. Young Thunder, Mayetta, Kansas
    2. Northwest Implement, Missouri
    3. Indio’s 23’s, Kansas City
    4. Gamecocks, Minnesota
