Royals sweep through ASA Nationals to capture age 10-under championship

The Winston Royals, 2011 ASA National Champions

MANKATO, MN – The The Winston Royals fastpitch softball team went undefeated in the boys’ age 10-under division to capture the 2011 Amateur Softball Association (ASA) National Championship at Caswell Park in North Mankato, Aug. 3 to 7.

The championship marks the third-consecutive for the team made up of players from throughout northwest Missouri.

The Royals scored in double figures in all its games, outscoring their opponents 57-4 to finish 4-0. They defeated Fairmont, MN, twice, 19-3 and 14-0, and knocked off the Key City Juniors from Garden City, MN, 11-0 and 13-1.

Winston pitcher Jacob Lewis – son of coach Eric Lewis – allowed just seven hits and six walks, while striking out 24. The Royals’ offensive outburst was led by Maryville slugger Tyler Houchin, who had 13 RBIs in the tournament.

The Royals roster includes: Jacob Lewis, Cy Uthe, Brian Lewis, Marshall Farrell, Jakub Hisel, and coach Eric Lewis, all from Winston. From Jefferson are Kobe Stoll, Nate Jermain, Eli Dowis, and assistant coach, Tim Jermain. From King City comes River McCallon, with Tanner Sears from Higginsville. And Marysville was represented by Tyler Houchin, Trey Houchin, and assistant coach, Matt Houchin.

The 2012 ASA Boys’ National Championships is scheduled to be held in Rolla, Missouri, which hosted the event in 2010.

The boys’ age 18-under ASA National Championship was also held at Caswell Park with Hennager Plumbing and Heating sweeping aside the competition with a 4-0 record. The order of finish:

In the Men’s 23-Under ASA National Championship, Northwest Implement edged out Hartford Explosion for the title:
