Old backyard friend gets a reprieve

YUCAIPA, Calif. – Our backyard has long been anchored by two old fruit trees, an apple and a plum. In the 35 years we’ve lived in the home, both trees have born lush fruit. Never failing, year after.

Our deed states the home was built in 1952. So I’m guessing the trees were planted about the same time. So bushels and bushels of plums and apples have been picked or fallen from those two trees. Not only feeding my family and friends, but also the flock of wild parrots that seem to know just when the fruit is ripe and ready for gorging.

Last chance for “We Play it Fast”

Otto.FP.Book.18web

YUCAIPA, CALIF – In 2011 I wrote a men’s and boys’ fastpitch book entitled, “We Play It Fast.”

It contains stories about the players, managers, sponsors, contributors and teams who have made the sport as great as it is.

It also contains stories – games and features – centering around the 2010 North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) World Series and International Softball Congress (ISC) World Tournament.

It contains 167 entries and about 200 photos of some of the players and teams who have played the sport.

I have 12 books left for sale. Once they are sold there will be no second edition.

(My wife and I are cleaning house. She’s agreed to part with some of her junk – I mean stuff. And I’ve agreed to part with my valuable, prized and collectable possessions. And that includes these books, along with photos that have outgrown any demand they once had.)

If there is no interest for the final 12 books then they are going in the recycling bin.

So if you have thought about buying a book, now is the time to place your order. I’ve set a deadline of Oct. 1.

The price per book is $23 if shipped within the U.S., and $27 Canada. The prices include shipping and handling.

If you have any questions, just send me an email.

Kevin Kammueller, a NAFA Hall of Famer and 20-year anniversary star

Friday, July 20th, 2012

Minnesotan, Kevin Kammueller will be inducted into the NAFA Hall of Fame during induction ceremonies at the 2012 NAFA World Series in Topeka, Kansas. He was also honored as one of NAFA’s top ball players in the organizations 20-year existance (1993-2012). Photo By BOB OTTO

“I think Kevin’s love for this game outweighs everything else about him.” – Cal-State Builders sponsor and manager Dave Carlton.

SHAKOPEE, MN – Like many pitchers in the fastpitch game, Kevin Kammueller took a roundabout way before he found his way into the pitching circle. The big right-hander caught some, and he split time in the outfield and infield.

He admits that he won’t be remembered as one of the sport’s greatest hitters or fielders. But pitching, now that’s an entirely different matter. Kammueller has developed into one of the greatest in the history of the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA).
