Six remain in quest for Gold at WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship

WHITEHORSE, YK, Canada – After eight games Friday, six national teams remain in medal contention, while four were eliminated from the championship at the WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship.

Canada and Australia finished Pool A in the top two spots, while in Pool B New Zealand and Japan earned those same spots. This is important as each would have the ability the loss one game without being eliminated.

Botswana upsets Great Britain in opener of 2017 Men’s World Softball Championship

WHITEHORSE, YK, Canada – MOGALE Kagiso Johannes threw an eight-inning no-hitter and No. 19 Botswana pulled off the upset by dropping No. 10 Great Britain, 1-0, in the opening game of the 2017 Men’s Softball World Championship, Friday.

Mogale struck out 13 and walked one, while Great Britain’s Kyle Linton set down 18 by way of the strikeout, while holding Botswana to just two hits.

In the eighth, Botswana scored in the top half, and then held on as Great Britain threatened with a runner on third base, but Mogale got the strikeout to end the game.

    Men’s world fastpitch softball championship fast approaching

    WHITEHORSE, CANADA – The 15th Men’s World Softball Championship begins July 7 and continues through July 16 in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada with 16 teams competing for the title at the Pepsi Softball Centre.

    While 2017 will be the first time Yukon hosts a senior men’s event, Softball Yukon has hosted three previous world softball championships – the Junior Men’s World Softball Championship in 2008 and 2014, as well as the 2012 Women’s World Softball Championship.

    WHITEHORSE, Canada — The World Baseball Softball Confederation today announced the pools and official tournament schedule of the 2017 WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship taking place in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada from 7-16 July.

    NEW ZEALAND will once again be a contender to win the 2017 WBSC Men’s Softball World Championship in Whitehorse, Canada, July 7-16, after finishing runner-up in 2015 to Canada. New Zealand leads all countries in the medal count with 12 gold, silver and bronze, including tops in gold with six, while Canada is a close second with 11 total medals, and No. 2 in the gold count with four.     The 15th edition of the men’s flagship softball event will showcase more than 80 games — 64 games taking place in the round robin over the first seven days, followed by three days of playoff action.

    The participating nations in the WBSC Men’s Softball Championship represent a global reach that spans across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Americas, and Oceania.

    Nations will be divided into two pools to compete in a challenging round-robin, with the top four finishers from each pool advancing to the double page playoff round. The remaining teams will compete in the placement round.
