Rain cancels Eugene Holm Classic, undefeated Kegel takes title

BouleyTyler.15 Some of the Midwest’s top teams and players competed in the Eugene Holm Classic men’s fastpitch tournament, including Tyler Bouley of Tin Cup, St. Paul, Minn.

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The weather wouldn’t cooperate at the Eugene Holm Classic, so Sunday’s championship round had to be canceled. But until the rains poured, some closely contested games were played with three of the eight teams claiming the top three spots.

TOURNAMENT’S BEST THREE

  • 1. Kegel Black Knights 3-0 (one run allowed)
  • 2. SME Threshers 2-1 (four runs allowed)
  • 3. Tin Cup, St. Paul 2-1 (nine runs allowed)

    KIMBERLY, WISC. – In 1996, New Zealand pitcher Hayden Smith turned in the top pitching performance in the ISC World Tournament in Kimberly, Wisc.

    Pitching for Circle Tap of Denmark, Wisc., Smith led all pitchers with six wins and finished 6-2 overall. His workhorse 52 1/3 innings bested Toronto Gators’ Darren Zack’s 41. He struck out 68 batters, also No. 1, with Joe Basaraba of Whitewood First Nation close behind with 62.
