ONTARIO, CA – The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall came to the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana on Thursday, July 1. About 50 veterans, many from the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 47, along with the ROTC Air Force Cadets of Yucaipa and Arlington high schools assembled 74 panels that comprise 58,195 names of service men and women who lost their lives in the Vietnam War.

The Moving Wall will be at the Speedway from July 1-5 and is free to the public. An Opening Ceremony will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. And a Final Roll Call Ceremony will take place on Sunday, July 4, at 6 p.m.

The Auto Club Speedway is located on Cherry Avenue in Fontana, off the Interstate 10 Freeway. Exit at Cherry, head north and the Speedway will be on your left.

Fontana Summit Slays Unbeaten Giant

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

Summit’s, Marty Casteneda, recovered the ball after teammate, Donte Deayon, blocked a field goal attempt and Casteneda returned the ball to the Citrus Hill nine-yard line, setting up a Montigo Alford touchdown during the Sky Hawks, 48-36, win over unbeaten Perris Citrus Hill, Friday.

PERRIS, CA – In the fall of 2006, the Fontana Summit and Perris Citrus Hill high schools opened. And the brand new schools scheduled their first-ever football game against each other on September 8th at Citrus Hill.

For Summit, the game was ugly. A 51-0 spanking. Summit Head Coach, Tony Barile, never forgot that game.

It would be another three years before the two teams would meet again. Again at Citrus Hill. And again a high scoring affair. But this time, the results had Barile smiling.

And brandishing a bright yellow slingshot after the game.

Late field goal carries Redlands past Summit

REDLANDS, CA – Summit Sky Hawks football coach, Tony Barile, has lots of good memories of Redlands High School. He graduated from the school in 1989. He attended his 20th year class reunion this summer. And he launched his coaching career at Redlands as the Terriers freshman football coach.

Lots of good memories for sure. But there’s one memory that he would rather erase. A heart wrenching, 16-14, loss on a Shaun McClain 20-yard field goal with 12 seconds left in the game that evened Redlands record at 1-1, while Summit slips to 0-2.

“These are good kids,” said Barile of his team, “but we are not doing the little things right and we don’t deserve to win.”

Friday night football puts our troubles on hold

COLONY HIGH SCHOOL, ONTARIO, CA – The news of late has been downright depressing: “Budget deficits expected to reach $9-trillion in 10 years,” “Arson suspected in Oak Glen and Yucaipa fires,” and “Worst downturn (unemployment) in decades.”

Who could blame us if we buried our heads under our pillows and hid from the world in a state of worry and depression?
