Father and son make history in NAFA World Series

HERMANN, Mo. – The regular fastpitch season for the father and his sons was over. Now they were headed to the NAFA World Series in Moline, Ill. to compete for a championship against some of the best teams in North America.

For Brad Johnson and his sons Tyler and Jacob, the NAFA A-Major World Series became one they will long remember.

Black Gold Comeback Falls Short In Black Gold Softball Classic

NEW HAVEN, Mo. – Black Gold men’s fastpitch team got off to a tough start in its own Black Gold Softball Classic, June 27-28, losing their first two pool play games and nearly being eliminated from their own tournament on Saturday.

The local squad then rallied and won three straight elimination games before falling in the fourth do-or-die affair to the Pinckneyville Falcons. The Falcons, 5-0 on the weekend, won the Black Gold Classic for the second consecutive year.

Loyalty ranks high for Missouri Hall of Fame pitcher

GERALD, Mo. – In 1987, Eric Steinbeck got an offer that forever charted his course in men’s fastpitch softball. He was just 15 at the time and wanted to play on his dad’s team, but the roster was pretty well set. However, the eager young Steinbeck was offered a spot on one condition:

“Our manager was Rick Small,” said Steinbeck now 41. “He came to me and said, ‘I have one uniform left and you probably won’t get to play much since you’re young, but you can have it if you work on your pitching. I’ll catch you any time you want to throw, and I’ll chase the wild pitches all day.’”

Steinbeck accepted Small’s offer and the manager chased many a wild pitch.

But not for long.
