MOLINE, IL – Not much time to practice? No problem. The way Chris Bigelow pitched might cause one to rethink the need for lots of practice time to sharpen one’s skills.

The veteran right-hander from Topeka, Kansas was in good form as he hurled the Durham Bulls of Whitby, Ontario to a 7-0 first-round victory over Toronto, Ontario Barracks, Thursday, in the ISC Legends tournament.

Bigelow scattered five hits, walked one, while striking out 12 in stifling, humid heat. And he looked like he’s has been playing fastball all season in preparation for the Legends classic. But far from it.

“I’ve just been throwing on the sidelines,” he said. “I’ve been busy umpiring girls (games). Today I threw mostly drop balls to keep the ball on the ground, and I got plenty of offensive support. I’ll take that any day.”

The Bulls scored in every inning except the second, and collected ten hits, led by leadoff batter Reg Barrau, 2-for-4, RBI; Chis Giamou, 2-for-3, 3 runs; Rob Ellis, 2-for-3, run; and Rick Minton, Paul Walford, Tony Kahan and Ken Sherman with one hit each.

For the Toronto Barracks, Mike Racioppo, Phil Slaney, Glen Sellers, Mark Thompson, and Dave Bradley had five hits each.
