MIDDLETON, Wisc. – Sixteen teams took to the ball diamonds at the Bowling Green Recreation Center in Middleton last weekend and when the last out was made, Wilber Lime of Galesville emerged as the NAFA AA / AA-Major Division champion, while Bol’s Lanes of Baldwin took the A / A-Major Division crown in the Henry St. Claire NAFA Wisconsin State Championship on Sunday.

Big boys in homestretch for NAFA AA-Major crown

DES MOINES – Eleven of the best intermediate teams in North America take to the ball diamonds today to decide who will be crowned “AA-Major World Champion.”

My money is on the Seattle Cal-State Builders who have ran through pool play and into the double-elimination bracket undefeated (3-0). Manager and owner Dave Carlton has assembled a fine ball club with a mix of solid offense and defense, and arguably the best pitching staff in the World Series.

In the circle are four of the world’s best intermediate / Open pitchers: First up is Minnesota’s Kevin Kammueller, the mainstay of the staff all season; Rich Haldane, who has pitched (and he swings the bat pretty well, too) the Sooke (BC) Loggers to four tournament titles this season, and is a national team pitcher for Great Britain.

Kegel rolls to West St. Paul tourney title

Thursday, July 25th, 2013

gervasutti.sebastian Led by the pitching of Sebastian Gervasutti (pictured above) and Gerald Muizelaar, the Kegel Black Knights of Fargo won the 2013 West St. Paul Men’s Fastpitch Tournament.

WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. – With the NAFA World Series and ISC World Tournament two weeks away, this is the time for teams to start playing their best ball. The time to peak. And if their latest tournament is a forecast, then the Kegel Black Knights appear to be right on schedule.

The Black Knights swept through the 43rd Annual West St. Paul Men’s Fastpitch Tournament undefeated (5-0) and knocked off Wilber Lime of Galesville, Wisc. 8-0 in the final at the West St. Paul Sports Complex, July 19-21.

Sebastian Gervasutti threw a no-hitter with five strikeouts to pick up the game-shortened win for Kegel of Fargo, which is celebrating its 30th year in men’s fastpitch. The 28-year-old from Bilbao, Spain finished the tournament 2-0 with one hit allowed in 18 innings and 34 strikeouts.

“He throws hard with the up and down and some change up,” said Kegel player / coach Kyle Koterba.

TOPEKA, KS – The San Antonio Titans swept through the AA-Major World Series after an initial disappointing turnout of teams. As the NAFA AA-Major (Aug. 17-19) kicked off Friday evening, tournament organizers found themselves scrambling to find teams to compete in the high profile tournament.

‘A’ TEAMS TO THE RESCUE
Teams from the A-division were encouraged to enter the AA-Major, so the tournament went forward, featuring top teams such as the Topeka Toros, New Image (WI), and the San Antonio Titans making their first NAFA World Series appearance in over five years.
