Fontana Kaiser softball team will play for CIF championship

The Kaiser Cats celebrate after their 2-1 victory over La Quinta that puts the Cats in the CIF-Southern Section Division 4 championship, Saturday, June 4.

FONTANA, CA – Kaiser High School’s softball team earned a place in the history books on Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over La Quinta in the CIF semifinal playoff game.

The Cats will now advance to the championship game, marking the first time ever that a team from Fontana has reached the CIF finals in softball.

Kaiser Cats Blast Palm Desert

REDLANDS, CA – No doubt, Kaiser softball coach John Stevens certainly wants to win every game. But he didn’t feel an overwhelming sense of urgency after the Cats lost their first two games in the Redlands Softball Invitational.

Nonetheless, getting a victory was nice after the Cats blasted the Palm Desert Aztecs, 14-8, last Thursday in the 12-team tournament.

“It’s nice to get that first win,” Stevens said. “We hit the ball well today, but not in the first two games.”

The Cats ran into a buzz saw in their tournament opener as senior Shelby Graves of the Chaparral Pumas hurled a perfect game against Kaiser, striking out 17 in the process…
