Black Gold of Hermann Takes Second Place After Dropping Two Straight To Pickneyville

NEW HAVEN, Mo. – After a solid win over Kelso to advance into this afternoon’s championship game, Black-Gold needed just one win to take first place in their own tournament for the first time since 2009.

Missouri’s Kelso Fastpitch competing in NAFA A-Major World Series

KELSO, MOKelso Fastpitch has won four tournaments this season and heads into the NAFA A-Major World Series (Aug. 8-11) with a 23-6 record.This talented ball club located in the southeastern part of the state has fielded a men’s fastpitch team for over 75 years, and has hosted the Kelso Klassic Tournament since 1985.

  • Kelso finishes fourth in Kelso Klassic fastpitch softball tournament

    KELSO, MO – Pete’s Blues ruled the Kelso Klassic for the second straight year.
    The squad from Mascoutah, Ill., repeated as champion in the 28th annual 14-team men’s fastpitch softball tournament that ended Sunday at Kelso City Park.

    Pete’s Blues went 5-1 in the tournament, capped by a 6-2 win over the Topeka (Kan.) Toros. The Toros forced the winner-take-all, if-necessary title contest earlier Sunday by beating Pete’s Blues 6-1.

    “I think Topeka just ran out of gas, but they took it to the very last game,” said Jerry Wolsey, the tournament media coordinator. “Pete’s Blues had another impressive tournament.”

    Kelso Klassic men’s fastpitch tournament back for 28th year

    KELSO, MO – Please find some details below regarding some of the favorite teams in this year’s 14-team tournament along with some of the better players for each team.

    This year’s tournament is an International Softball Congress (ISC) World Tournament qualifier. Last year’s second place team the Memphis, TN. Firebirds have folded. They lost their sponsor along with last year’s Klassic MVP Aaron Fultz who pitched nine years in the Major Leagues. He has taken a job as a minor league pitching coach in the Phillies organization.

    1.) Pete’s Blues-Mascoutah, IL.: A very strong team and last year’s Klassic Champion. This team is loaded with experience as they finished very high in last year’s International Softball Congress (ISC) World Tournament.

    Pitching: They are led by Wisconsin Native Jeramie Holman who has been the Pitching MVP the last two years of the Klassic. He has a devastating change up and racks up the strike outs with this pitch.

    Offensively: They are led by ISC All World Catcher Daniel Alstat who led last years ISC World Tournament with 13 hits and was second in RBI’s with 9. Other key hitters for the Blues are Outfielder Daniel Eisenhauer, and Utility Player Jim Pecoraro.

    Fastpitch Softball: A Small Town Tradition Celebrates Silver Anniversary

    Kelso Fastpitch competed in the NAFA World Series “A-Major” Division at West Des Moines and Des Moines, Iowa, Aug. 12-15, finishing the tournament with a 2-2 record.

    “The teams from Illinois have really been good to this tournament over the years. They are the backbone of this tournament right now…The number of midwest teams are declining, but the interest in this tournament continues to stay pretty high.” assistant tournament director Rick Heuring.

    KELSO, MO – One of the major highlights in men’s fastpitch softball takes place this weekend in Southeast Missouri.

    The 25th anniversary Kelso Klassic, a 14-team event featuring squads from three states, will be held Friday through Sunday on two fields at the Kelso City Park.

    Admission is $2 for adults while children ages 12 and under are admitted free.

    Kelso, a town of barely 500 residents, is located seven miles south of Cape Girardeau.

    “This event has become an early summer tradition for area fastpitch fans to see some of the top teams in the midwest,” assistant tournament director Rick Heuring said.
