By JESSE ORTIZ
SCIFL President

LAS VEGAS – The So. Calif. Independent Fastpitch League (SCIFL) and the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) are pleased to announce the twelfth edition of the “Las Vegas Road Trip” men’s fast pitch tournament.

The event will be held April 12-14, 2019 with the first round games starting Friday at noon, and the Championship games scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday.

PLAN EARLY AND LATE

Teams flying in and out should make plans to be ready to play early on Friday and late on Sunday in the event the brackets are running late.

While this tournament is a NAFA sanctioned event, it is run by SCIFL; any questions regarding this tournament must go through the SCIFL Tournament Director Jesse Ortiz.

NAFA DIVISIONS

Teams will be separated in the following divisions: A, A-Major (depending on amount of teams), AA/AA-Major (depending on the amount of teams. The split in the higher classifications will be based on the amount of teams that enter.

NAFA PITCHER’S LIST

The NAFA pitcher’s list will be used to monitor pitchers in the tournament as well as the team’s current classification. No open class pitchers are allowed to pitch in these three divisions. Confirmation into the tournament will be based on the entry fee and roster received.

The classification list posted on the NAFA web site on January 31, 2019 will be the list used to classify pitchers. There will be no appeals for pitchers after that date for this tournament.

The NAFA 3-GAME GUARANTEE BRACKET will be used for all divisions. With a minimum of eight (8) teams in a division, the winner will have their 2019 NAFA World Series entry fee paid for the division they played in.

HOW SWEET IT IS! The Budmen of So. Calif. greet Robert McCarrie with jubilation after he hit a two-run home run to give the Budmen a walk-off 10-9 victory over Wololok, Calif. in the A Division of the Las Vegas Road Trip X men’s fastpitch tournament, Saturday, at Sunset Park. CONTACT AND PLAYING INFO

Teams interested in participating should contact Jesse Ortiz by email at scifastpitch (at) gmail.com or by cell at (661) 510-8928 and inform him if your team can play all three days. Teams that can play all three days will be placed on the priority list, teams that say they can only play on Saturday and Sunday will be placed on the secondary list. No one will be given a “selected” game time as everyone is traveling to the event.

HOW IT WORKS / MAXIMUM TEAMS

We are accepting 34 teams in total, but it may change. Teams will be placed on a list as first come first serve basis. Once the tournament is full, additional teams will be added to the waiting list and if they pay their entry fee (in full) they will have an opportunity to participate if a team drops out or does not pay by the due date. If a team on the waiting list pays their entry fee and is not able to get in, their entry fee will be refunded.

This tournament has been filling up quickly within the past couple of years so I would suggest you contact Jesse as soon as possible if you want to be added to the team list.

ENTRY FEE AND REGISTRATION

The entry fee for the tournament is $475, which includes the $35 Annual NAFA Team Registration Fee. We will start collecting the entry fee beginning January 2, 2019 and once it’s received you will be sent an email to confirm your entry.

All teams will need to submit their entry fee along with their team’s roster, listing all their players and identifying their pitchers to ensure teams are placed in their proper classification.

A1 Bombers and J&B Painting merger creates super team with big goal

    Thursday, April 13th, 2017

The J&B BOMBERS defeated the Northeast Naturals, 11-0, in the championship game of the 2017 Las Vegas Road Trip X, AA/AA-Major tournament at Sunset Park in las Vegas, Sunday, April 9. The team includes co-sponsors and managers Bob Berger and Jerry Zimmerman; players Eli Salazar, Cameron Schiller, Tyler Dudley, Freddy Carmona, Jorge Segura, Pat Burns, Tony Mancha, Blake Hunter, Tyler McGaughey, Mike Hoadley, Derrick Kennedy, Kris Walushka, Jesse Palacios, Mark Aranda, Gil Saenz, Devon McCullough and Bryan Erwin. Photo By BOB OTTO

LAS VEGAS – Both Jerry Zimmerman and Bob Berger look back with pride on the accomplishments of their respective ball clubs during the 2016 season.

Zimmerman’s A1 Bombers of Saskatoon, SK, CA finished fifth (4-2) in the ISC World Tournament, while Berger’s J&B Painting club of Agoura Hills, Calif. took 11th (2-2). And just a year prior, they finished third and fifth respectively.

Adding to those accolades, the Bombers also took second (5-2) in the 2016 ASA Men’s Major National Championship.

And during the regular season, both teams were ranked in the top-ten by the ISC.

Very good ball clubs? Certainly. Great? Close, but not quite.

While both were competitive, capable of and often beating the best in the game, neither had quite the firepower to grasp the brass rings – which in men’s fastpitch equate to winning the ISC world tournament and ASA major national championship.

So, if you come close but can’t quite win those titles, what can be done? Merge. Exactly what the two men decided to do.

By combining forces, they significantly raise the odds of winning those two coveted championships. And it appears they’ve created a ball club – the J&B Bombers – that must be considered one of the favorites to win it all.

Zimmerman and Berger left no doubt about their expectations.

“We’re going to win the world,” Berger said, “win everything. That’s our goal.”

Ohio Battery, Maccabi USA and Taft (Calif.) Buzzards claim Las Vegas Road Trip titles

    Monday, April 13th, 2015

    SCIFL2r

LAS VEGAS – The eighth annual Las Vegas Road Trip men’s fastpitch tournament is in the books with three teams emerging as champions in the AA / AA-Major, A-Major, and A divisions of the NAFA-sanctioned tournament conducted by the Southern California Independent Fastpitch Association (SCIFL).

      AA / AA-Major Division

Ohio Battery went undefeated (4-0) to claim the championship, but it wasn’t without a fight as the Ohio team had to hold off the 2014 NAFA World Series AA-Major champion Portland CR Brewers, 8-6, on Sunday to finally fly back to the Midwest with a Southwestern title.

The Brewers and Battery met in the winners bracket final, but this time the Ohio ball club had little difficulty, taking a 5-0 decision. The Brewers then got in a dog fight in the losers bracket final before squeezing past Randy’s A’s 6-5 for a second crack at Ohio Battery.

The runner-up CR Brewers finished 3-2, while Randy’s A’s took third with a 3-2 mark.

      A-Major Division

Maccabi USA roared through the A-Major division winning five consecutive games to claim the championship with a 10-0 victory over the Colorado Rage.

Maccabi bats stung opposing pitching by scoring 36 runs for a 7.2 average, while the pitching fired three shutouts and allowed just five runs in five games.

The Rage finished 3-2 in the 11-team division and beat K-Club of Washington, 5-0, in the losers bracket final to get back into title contention. K-Club started the tournament strong by reeling off two straight wins before losing to Maccabi, 10-3, in the quarterfinals.

Knocked into the losers bracket, the Washington ball club responded with a 7-4 victory over the Pirates and got past the Stealers 8-5 before falling to the Rage and finishing third at 4-2.

      A Division

The Taft Buzzards (near Bakersfield, Calif.) defeated Press Box of Montana, 12-7, to take the championship and remain unblemished at 5-0 in the 13-team tournament.

The two ball clubs met earlier in the winners bracket final with Buzzards taking a 6-2 decision, sending Press Box (4-2) into the losers bracket final where they beat the Oklahoma Sykos, 7-2, for a return match with the Buzzards.
