HERMISTON, Ore. – Two years a go Shayne Arndt jumped into a leadership role with the North American Fastpitch Association when he agreed to become NAFA Director of the Northwest Region, a territory that includes Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana.

That’s a huge swath of fastpitch country in which to try and expand a sport that, as in much of the country, has been declining for the past 30 years.

Arndt doesn’t claim to be a miracle worker and he does’t promise sudden explosive growth. His plan is more pragmatic.

“I want to build relationships with other teams,” said Arndt, 40. “We compete on the field, but we must cooperate off it to build more teams, leagues and regional tournaments. There was a rich history of fastpitch in Oregon, but right now it’s dormant. Two years a go I saw a need for leadership to get the ball rolling again. I love the game, that’s why I do it.”

Appreciation party planned for Yakima fastpitch leader Jim Williamson

Thursday, February 26th, 2015

Press release / By Mark Seward

YAKIMA, Wash. – For the fastpitch community that doesn’t know this, Mr. James Robert Williamson (Jim or J.R. who most of us know him by) is not fielding a team this year.

We are having an alumni party for him on March 21st at his favorite bar the Little Dutch Inn in Yakima Washington.

This is not farewell party; it’s a thank you and to celebrate his accomplishments in fastpitch.

“He’s been a player, coach and sponsor for more then 35 years, and I’m proud to say I’ve been a part of his teams (under such banners as JRW & Associates) for many of those years. And that’s not counting all the other things he’s done for the sport.” – Mark Seward

Any alumni, or friends interested in attending, please just send me a reply or message me and I will get you more details.

MOSES LAKE, Wash. – Moses Lake lies about halfway between Seattle and Spokane off the 90 Interstate. Most people have never heard of Moses Lake, and have no reason to go to Moses Lake.

But there’s at least one exception. Men’s fastpitch softball. In particular the annual K-Club Invitational Men’s Fastpitch Tournament.

Since the tournament began in 2012, spearheaded by the Kolda family – father Dan and sons Rickey and Mike – teams from the greater Northwest have become quite familiar with Moses Lake, and have taken a liking to the tournament.
