QUAD CITIES, Ia/Il – After 26 hits and 18 runs, the slugfest between Mac’s of Kansas City and the A’s of Reese, Mich. was finally decided when Mac’s scored three times in the ninth inning to pull out a 10-8 victory in the A-Major Division, Friday.

With the game tied at seven, Matt Chambers singled to lead off the ninth and advanced to third on a throwing error. John Angell promptly drove him in with a single to break the tie.

Then after an out, Bubba Hernandez singled up the middle scoring Angell, and catcher Brody Abell lofted a single into short left field plating Hernandez.

The A’s didn’t go down quietly, though. In their half of the ninth, Jacob Bouvy slugged a home run over the right field fence to start the inning. But Joe McCall, who came on in the sixth, retired the side with a line drive infield out, strikeout and pop up.

“We went through the lineup a couple times before we could get the key hits when we needed them,” said Abell, who splits time between catching and pitching with Joe McCall and Ryan McCall.

Mac’s finished with 15 hits, led by leadoff batter Blake Stroth 3 for 4; Matt Chambers 4 for 5; and Hernandes 3 for 5. The A’s had 11 hits and were led by leadoff batter Dexin Mielheim 5 for 5 and Jacob Bouvy and Will Jack with two hits each.

The win move Mac’s (2-0) into Friday’s 5 p.m. winner’s bracket game, while the A’s (1-1) will have to battle back through the loser’s bracket.
