KUTZTOWN, Penn. – Throughout the history of men’s fastpitch, fathers have brought their sons into the sport. And it’s still happening across the country today – generation upon generation.

In Idaho, there’s the Alders, with father Greg and son Shane anchoring the Boise RiverDogs. And into Washington, we find Dan Kolda and his three sons Rick, Mike and Ryan playing together on K-Club.

Heading northeast into Minnesota, we learn that Duke Nessler introduced his three boys to fastpitch in the 1970s – Jeff, Randy and Dan. And now Dan has his son Steven playing who is a member of the USA Junior Men’s National Team.

Winding our way south into Missouri we meet Eric Lewis, who with his sons Craig and Jacob, have won ASA boys’ national championships.

And traveling east to Kutztown, Pennsylvania, we come upon the Fenstermachers. As with the Alders and Koldas, Lewis’s and Nesslers, the Fenstermachers is a family with a distinguished fastpitch legacy.

Father Bart, 47, brought his boys Zac, 25, and Jacob, 22, into the sport when they were young boys. And eagerly waiting to join her dad and brothers is three-year-old Maia.

Zac Fenstermacher, 25, at shortstop helped the Bedford Rays finish third in the 2014 NAFA World Series, A-Division.

Proud of their kids’ venture into the fastpitch game? You bet say mother Erin and Bart.

“It’s awesome to have the opportunity to travel and play a sport you love and spend time with your boys,” said Bart, who began playing fastpitch at 22. “(They) started as pinch runners on some of my teams, and Zac had his first at bat when he was 14 years old.”

MOSES LAKE, Wash. – Moses Lake lies about halfway between Seattle and Spokane off the 90 Interstate. Most people have never heard of Moses Lake, and have no reason to go to Moses Lake.

But there’s at least one exception. Men’s fastpitch softball. In particular the annual K-Club Invitational Men’s Fastpitch Tournament.

Since the tournament began in 2012, spearheaded by the Kolda family – father Dan and sons Rickey and Mike – teams from the greater Northwest have become quite familiar with Moses Lake, and have taken a liking to the tournament.

SEATTLE, WASH. – The Seattle Invitational Tournament has a long and distinguished list of champions since its launch in 1963. In those 53 years, elite teams like Seattle’s Pay ‘N Pak and Peterbuilt, along with Payless of Victoria, BC, and Larry Miller Toyota of Salt Lake City have claimed the championship.

And now K-Club of Bremerton, Wash. can add its name along side the prominent ball clubs who have won this prestigious west coast tournament.

K-Club, with a lineup of talent from throughout the Northwest, won the 2013 11-team tournament by defeating the Portland Brewers 7-6 at Dacca Park in Fife, July 28.

“This is an indescribable feeling, I still can’t believe it,” said K-Club manager and player Mike Kolda. “This team has put in a lot of hard work and come a long way since our birth. We’ve suffered some tough championship game losses. To break through for our first win at such a quality event is better than anything I could have dreamed of for this program.”

Moses Lake, WA – JRW & Associates of Yakima, WA defeated the Spokane Souvenirs 8-2 in the championship game of the 2nd Annual Columbia Basin Fastpitch Invite in Moses Lake, WA on Sunday May 19th.

Most Valuable Pitcher Sam Aldridge only gave up three hits and struck out 12 in the championship game. The two runs that were allowed were a two-Run home run by Nick Leva which was totally lost in the sun.

Most Valuable Player and Designated Hitter Tom Magers batted .500, had a double and a two-run home run. His three RBIs contributed to breaking up two close games to aid in JRW wins. Tom will celebrate his 60th birthday at the NAFA West Masters in Carson City on September 13th.

West Fargo tops K-Club for NAFA World Series crown

    Monday, August 13th, 2012

    ANTHONY S. BUSH
    THE CAPITAL-JOURNAL

TOPEKA, KS – Two long balls and a dominate performance from a Kiwi pitcher led the West Fargo, N.D., Knights to a 9-2 victory Sunday against the Washington K-Club in the championship game of the NAFA A-Major World Series at the Shawnee North softball complex.

Jackson Prime, a 17-year-old from Auckland, New Zealand, threw six innings of seven-hit ball for the Knights’ second win against the K-Club, a Seattle metro area squad, in the 32-team double elimination tournament.

Relying on his drop ball, Prime surrendered seven hits, all singles, and walked just one batter.

“I threw a lot of drop balls,” Prime said. “My fingers were a little sore, so I could not throw as hard as I wanted to. The win feels good, and we’re still undefeated.”
