Kansas City Monarchs Perfect In Taking NAFA AA-Major Crown

Saturday, August 11th, 2018

The 2018 NAFA World Series returned to Fargo’s North Softball Complex for a second consecutive year from Aug. 8-19.

FARGO, N.D. – Led by the pitching of Eder Pineda, a near flawless defense and a opportunistic offense, the Monarchs of Kansas City swept through the NAFA AA-Major Division to claim the World Series championship with a perfect 5-0 record in seeding and playoff competition.

Pineda (3-0) held off the defending champion Portland CR Brewers in the title game on a five-hitter to lead the Monarchs to a 5-3 victory. Pineda struck out six and walked to two for this third victory of the tournament.

Carlos Carreno slugged a home run, scored twice and went 2-for-3 at the plate to highlight the Monarchs’ eight-hit attack. Josh White drove in a pair of runs and went 1-for-3, while Brendan Wentling was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

The title game marked the second meeting of the two powerhouse ball clubs. In an earlier game, the Monarchs shutout the Portland, Oregon club, 2-0, and again it was Pineda notching the win on a 7-inning, five-hitter with three strikeouts. The Brewers Jorge Segura allowed just three hits and one earned run to take the tough-luck loss.

The Monarchs also slipped past Summerside, Prince Edward Island, Canada, 3-2, with Carlos Lucero striking out 11 and scattering 7 hits to claim the victory. Carreno tripled to drive in two runs and was 2-for-3, while Adam Henry was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

LAS VEGAS – The Beaumont Coyotes had dug themselves a hole, a huge hole.

Now, could they dig themselves out of it?

Of top priority, the man in the circle had to stop the hemorrhaging. That’s exactly what Jesse Martinez did.

Trailing 5-0 in the fifth inning in the A-Division championship game of the Las Vegas Road Trip X tournament, Martinez told his teammates he wouldn’t give up any more runs.

Now all they had to do was show some offensive punch. And like lighting a fuse, the Coyotes bats caught fire in the fifth and sixth innings.

J&B Painting, Page Brake, Rude-Pac claim Las Vegas Road Trip VII championships

    Thursday, April 17th, 2014

Thirty seven teams from across the United States and from Canada, Mexico, Valenzuela, and Argentina competed for divisional championships in Las Vegas with two California and one Utah team taking the three titles against tough competition.

By ROBERT HERNANDEZ / Tournament Director

LAS VEGAS – The dust has all settled, the last out has been called, champions have been crowned and the 2014 edition of the Las Vegas Road Trip is in the books. Hopefully everyone had some fun in Sin City and left with a little extra cash in your pocket on the trip back home.

This year’s tournament had almost perfect weather; no rain forecasted but high clouds to bring the heat down in the afternoon. The wind did kick in hard on Sunday morning, making fly balls interesting to say the least.

Thirty-seven teams were entered into the tournament; however, one dropped out late Friday evening as only four players arrived to play-unfortunately making it too late to adjust the schedule.

The competition in all three levels was fantastic…To read game reports of the three division championships visit the SCIFL website and read Las Vegas Road Trip VII

NAFA AA-Major World Series has strong field

    Thursday, July 4th, 2013

DES MOINES, IOWA – When it comes to parity, it appears that the NAFA AA-Major World Series is wide open with no clear-cut favorite.

Four of the 15 teams are ranked in the top-25 in the world of men’s fastpitch: The Kegel Black Knights are No. 7; Pete’s Blues, No. 13; the Cal-State Builders, No. 20; The Topeka Toros, No. 23, and New Image No. 24…

But I wouldn’t bet against any of the rest of the field in taking the crown. Just look at the past history of some of these ball clubs and the “who’s who” they have throwing for them.

DES MOINES, WEST DES MOINES, IA – Peter Saldana-Rodriguez stepped into the right-side batter’s box. The bases were loaded. Tim Schultz was on third, Will Sandifer on second, Chris Torres on first.

For over three hours, the Texas Manor Dirt Bags and New Image of Monfort, WI. were locked in a battle in the NAFA World Series “AA-Major” playoffs. The score was tied, 1-1, in the 14th inning.

Like two iron-willed poker players playing for high stakes, the game had everything riding on it. The winner advances to the championship game. While the loser goes home.

And all alone in the batter’s box stood Rodriguez with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 14th. He could hear his Manor Dirt Bag teammates imploring him to wait on the change up and just meet the ball.
