KENOSHA, Wisc. – Chances are if you’re traveling in southeastern Wisconsin, you will happen upon Willkomm’s Mobil and one of it’s several Mobil service stations and restaurants.

The company’s reputation is excellent; it’s service and products great.

And if you’re into men’s fastpitch, somewhere, sometime on ball diamonds throughout the Midwest, you’ve most likely seen or played against a very fine team branded with Willkomm Mobil on its jerseys.

It all began when owner Jerry Willkomm agreed to sponsor the team in 1992, and it carries on yet today, 24 years later, with no plans on folding.

“Jerry Willkomm and the entire Willkomm Mobil company has been awesome,” said Willkomm general manager and player, Mark Nelson. “He has sponsored the team since 1992, and had sponsored other fastpitch teams before that. He’s a great person to play for, comes to games when he is in the area, and supports us 100-percent. The team takes pride in wearing the name on and off the field.”

Let’s play ball!

Wednesday, August 7th, 2013

The 2013 NAFA World Series runs from Aug. 7-18 with 120 teams competing for five divisional championships. Pool Play in the AA / AA-Major divisions starts at 5 p.m. tonight. The outcome will determine seeding in the the AA and AA-Major brackets.

WEST DES MOINES – The teams have arrived, the ball fields are prepped and ready, the umpires have been assigned their games, and that can mean only one thing – let’s play ball! And make that NAFA style in the opening night of the 2013 NAFA World Series.

On tap Wednesday are several terrific AA / AA-Major pool play games at the Greater Des Moines Softball complex – and they promise to be dandy matchups.

In Pool A at 5 p.m., Stokes of Lancaster, Penn. takes on the Bronx of Saskatchewan, Canada, while Wilkomm Mobil (Wisc.) battles the local favorite, McCuen’s Pub of Des Moines – and the schedule shows that USA National Team members Josh Johnson and Tom Crouch will be suiting up for McCuen’s.

palazzo.matt.361web Matt Palazzo of Palazzo’s Pizza is a 2013 Hall of fame inductee and will try and lead his team to a AA-Major championship.

Then in Pool B at 7 p.m., Hall of Fame pitcher, Jeramie Holman, will lead his New Image team of Monfort, Wisc. against Ostrander Fastpitch with Will Maddux and Joel Cooley toeing the rubber.

I’m picking Ostrander (Minn.) for the win (in what some fans may consider an upset).

WEST DES MOINES, DES MOINES, IA – Bart Fenstermacher has had his share of success on the softball diamond. He’s played on a ball club that won a National Softball Association (NSA) championship, and on a team that finished as high as third in the ISC II Tournament of Champions.

Both lofty accomplishments.

But what he did in the 2010 NAFA “AA” World Series Championship, Aug. 22, tops anything he’s done yet in his 21 years of playing men’s fastpitch softball.

With his Keating’s Fitness Center team trailing the Rice Lake Orangemen, 2-0, in the third inning, Fenstermacher came to the plate and belted a grand slam home run.

But he wasn’t finished – not by a long shot.

Cal-State Builders go full time, 2010 California Classic on tap

The 2010 Cal-State Builders.

“…I decided I would like to start my own team.” – Dave Carlton

BAY AREA, CA – The 2010 fastpitch season marks a couple of firsts for Dave Carlton. It’s the first time he’s grabbed the reins as a full time manager. And it’s the first time his team – the Cal-State Builders – will play a full season.

“We have dabbled in the NAFA Masters, NAFA AA, and a couple other tournaments prior to this season,” said Carlton, 39, of Hayward, California. “But this is the first full season for the team,”

Carlton began playing fastpitch in 1990 in Seattle. And from the get-go the first baseman has loved the challenge of hard-fought games.

“It is fantastic to play games that are close and count,” he said.
