Aussie Colts headed for ISF X Junior World Softball Championship

Collingwood, Victoria, Australia – Australia’s Under-19 Men’s (fast-pitch) Softball Team, Aussie Colts, leave Sydney today to participate in the coming ISF X Junior World Championship in Whitehorse, Canada, July 11-20.

The 17-player squad will fly to Vancouver where they will participate in a number of pre-event games in preparation for the World Championship, starting on July 11.

Group games at the World Championship will be played against:

  • New Zealand
  • Japan
  • Singapore
  • Argentina
  • Canada
  • Mexico
  • Czech Republic
  • United States
  • Denmark
  • Currently ranked third in the world, but previous gold medal winners on four occasions, the Aussie Colts are primed for competition with Wayne Saunders (head coach) and Kieran O’Leary (captain) leading the way.

    Thomas Makea’s fastpitch career ends in full circle fairytale

    HASTINGS, NEW ZEALAND – Hawke’s Bay’s four-time world champion and Softball New Zealand’s player of the last decade Thomas Makea left his cleats on the main diamond at Akina Park, Hastings, after the Fun in the Sun tournament final on Sunday.

    “This is where I wanted to announce my retirement from international play. Here at Akina Park surrounded by whanau where my career began,” Makea explained as a young souvenir hunter scampered on to the diamond and claimed the cleats.

    Junior Explorers: New program could produce next generation of Midland Explorers’ players

    MIDLAND, MI – Young players like Auburn’s Jon Gwizdala are excited to be part of a brand-new program that could produce the next generation of fastpitch softball players for the Midland Explorers.

    Gwizdala, 21, is a pitcher for the 21-and-under Midland Junior Explorers, who will play in the International Softball Congress 21U Tournament in Midland in August.

    “It’s really exciting to be on the team,” said Gwizdala, who played baseball at Bay City Western and is a student at Delta College. “It’s exciting because it’s something new (on the fastpitch scene) and something new for the younger players.
