FARGO – DEREK GOMEZ drove in four runs, CRAIG LEWIS fired a three-hitter and the USA Jr. Men’s National Team pounded the Fargo Knights, 10-1, to push Team USA’s record to 3-0 in the Fargo Memorial Weekend Men’s Fastpitch Tournament at North Softball Complex, Saturday.

In the five-inning mercy affair, Lewis struck out four and allowed three walks and the one earned run. Gomez, batting cleanup, was 2-for-3 and belted a bases-loaded triple in the second inning that saw Team USA scored five times to take a 7-0 lead.

The Knights plated a run in the top of the fourth on Paul Ness’s single, but the national team answered right back in their bottom half of the inning with three runs, highlighted by Gomez’s run-scoring single.

Lewis struck out the side in the fifth to end the game and push his record to 2-0.

Gomez led the offense, but had help from Jeff Lewis leading off, who was 1-for-2 with an RBI and scored twice; Paul Miklovic, 1-for-1, RBI, 3 runs; Tony Wark, 1-for-2, RBI, 2 runs; Daniel Stangel, 1-for-2, 2 runs; and Ethan Rodriguez, 1-for-2, and a run scored.

For the Knights, Patrick Gaylord, Ness, and Tim Tweiten each had a hit, while Andrew Potter was saddled with the loss in two innings of work.
