Bronx win on Slywka’s walkoff homer

NORTHSIDE SOFTBALL COMPLEX – Brian Slywka wasn’t having the best of game’s. But come the seventh inning that all changed with one swing of the bat.

With the scored tied 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh between the Northwest Braves and ECL Bronx, Slywka came to the plate and belted a solo-shot over the left-centerfield fence for the game winner to give the Bronx a first-round victory in the A-Major World Series.

The pitch?

“I got an inside pitch down in the zone,” Slywka said, who bats in the two slot. “I had gone 0-for-3 and all I wanted to do was get on base. It felt great. This is my first World Series and something I’ll remember for a long time.”

Brian Robb pitched 2 2/3 innings of relief to pick up the win. He allowed one hit, struck two and walk two. Matt Chambers had a huge game for the Bronx going 2-for-3 with 3 RBI. Parker Lyga led the Braves with a 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBI.

Hometown Rooters hold off Montana’s Desperado in NAFA AA-Major opener

FARGO, N.D. – Ethan Renglien was masterful in the circle in leading Rooters Bar of Fargo to a 2-1 victory over Desperado Sports Bar of Missoula, Mont. in the opening round of the AA-Major World Series at Northside Softball Complex, Wednesday night.

The tall, right-handed Renglien fired risers and drops in striking out 11, and giving up just four hits. Desperado’s Leo Bresse was the hard-luck loser, matching Renglien pitch-for-pitch on a four-hit, nine strikeout effort. Only one run was earned.

The game stayed tied into the seventh until Rooters plated a walk-off run to win it.

Lane Lunde led Rooters with two hits in four attempts with an RBI, and Matt Kalesa, and Justin Kheanit had one hit each.

For Desperado, Ryan Donovan, Kevin Yeaglin, Halbert Machinskinic and Shane Alder had a hit a piece, with Alder getting the lone RBI.

    Fargo Memorial Men’s Fastpitch Tournament reaches championship Sunday

    FARGO, No. Dak. – After 18 games, the Fargo Memorial Men’s Fastpitch Tournament will wrap up Sunday in a single elimination playoff at Northside Softball Complex with games starting at 9 a.m.

    Kegel / Apex (3-0), Notre Dame (2-1), Fargo Rooters (2-1) and the Fargo Bombers (3-0) all received first-round byes and will play at 10:30, taking on the winners of the 9 a.m. first-round.

    The semi-finals are scheduled for noon, followed shortly by the championship at 1:30.


    A Step Back In Time: Wausau fastpitch team takes third in 2000 NAFA World Series

    FARGO, No. Dak. – In 2000, Rep and Baja’s finished third out of 48 teams in the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) World Series, A Division, in Fargo.

    The Wausau, Wisc. team finished 5-2, including a 2-0 victory over eventual champion Kegel Black Knights of Fargo, whose only pitcher John Desaulniers threw every inning, including 37 the final day, to finish at 8-1.

    Rep and Baja’s burst out to a 5-0 start to reach the winners bracket final, but lost twice to take the third spot in the tournament that featured teams from throughout the United States and Canada.

    Rep and Baja’s beat River City Brewers of Winnipeg, 9-8; Stadium Club of Billings, Mont., 4-3; the Cardinals of Sydney, Nova Scotia, 4-1; and the Black Knights, 2-0, to reach the final round. But the team then lost 3-2 to Rissers of Devils Lake, No. Dak. and 5-4 to Kegel in a rematch.

    The club placed five players on All-World team including outfielder Mark Zee, and utility and pitching ace Kevin Leick both of Marshfield, Wisc. Leick had a 21-3 pitching record for the season.

    In other NAFA divisions, the Denmark Dukes (Wisc.) won the AAA division, and the Toronto, Ontario, CA, Jaguars won the AA.

    Fargo will once again host the NAFA World Series, marking the 25th anniversary of the organization that began in 1993. The tournament will be held Aug. 9-20, with games played at Fargo’s NEW Northside Softball Complex.

    25th Anniversary of NAFA World Series Heads To North Dakota

    Founded in 1993, NAFA will celebrate its 25th anniversary by holding its 2017 World Series at the new Northside Softball Complex in Fargo, North Dakota, Aug. 9-20.

    FARGO, N.D. – The North American Fastpitch Association was formed in 1993, offering a World Series for boys’ and men’s fastpitch softball teams of all skill levels.

    2017 marks the 25th year the organization has hosted championship tournaments in six divisions: Young men (age 23-under), Open, AA-Major, AA, A-Major and A. And new this year, will be a recreation division for ball clubs recent to the sport.

    The North Dakota cities of FargoWest Fargo and Moorhead, Minn. have the honor and are proud to host the event at its new softball facility: Northside Softball Complex.

    The Fargo Memorial Tournament will offer competitive pitching, hitting and defensive prowess for NAFA A-Major teams and below at Fargo’s Northside Softball Complex May 28-29.

    FARGO, ND – When Tournament Director Justin Feist started making plans for the Fargo Memorial Tournament, he decided that the entry fee would be reasonable. Some would most likely say, “wow, what a deal.”
