PARANA, ARGENTINA – The pitching was steady, the hitting sufficient enough, and the USA Men’s National Fastpitch Team defeated Cuba 4-2 in the IX Pan American games, on Sunday.

Fastpitch softball: Team USA evens score Huron Wellness goes down, 3-0

A team comprised of some of the nation’s most talented young fastpitch softball players defeated one of the Blue Water Area’s top teams Tuesday evening.

PORT HURON, MI – The U.S. Junior National Fastpitch squad settled a score with Huron Wellness, taking a 3-0 win in five innings in an exhibition game at Pine Grove Park. The national team USA Junior Men’s website, composed of players ages 17 to 19, faced the Mike West Attorney team from the local Ange Law Fastpitch League in the nightcap. That game was still under way at press time.

“I knew they were going to be in Michigan this week, and they were looking for games,” Huron Wellness manager and Ange league organizer Kurt Schieman said. “I asked if they were interested in coming to Port Huron because we are trying to gain interest locally. This gives exposure to the game we are trying to have catch on.”

Someone to Know: Nicolas Bitter, West St. Paul, Minnesota Angels

PARANA, ARGENTINA – There’s a fastpitch pipeline that’s bringing some of South America’s best players north to the United States. High among them is Nicolas Bittor, who spent the 2011 season with the West St. Paul, Minnesota Angels.

Bittor had a terrific ISC World Tournament in helping the Angels finish fourth – the highest finish in the World Tournament for a Minnesota team since 1981 when St. Paul All-American Bar finished fourth.

That South American pipeline?

For the Angels, it winds its way down to Parana, Argentina…
