2016 ISC World Tournament standings, all-world teams and MVP’s

MOLINE, IL – The Inernational Softball Congress World Tournament was held in Moline, IL, Aug. 13-20, with 36 teams competing for the coveted 70th championship.

The Toronto Gators won the title in an exciting all-Canada final, in which Shane Boland belted a walk-off, three-run home run for a 6-3 victory over the three-time defending champion Hill United Chiefs.

Softball rings a ‘Bell’ in Canada

They call the International Softball Congress event taking place this week in Moline a world tournament.

Small world.

And in more ways than one. Of the 46 teams in the 2011 ISC Men’s World Fast-pitch Tournament field, 16 come from Canada, the rest from the United States.

Among those Canadian crews are the Tribe from Wyevale, Ont., a group that played its way into this week’s field June 16.

That’s the same day Tribe pitcher David Bell was introduced as the next head coach of the Central Hockey League’s Quad-City Mallards.

“Absolute fluke,” Bell said in advance of a 5-4 extra-inning Tribe loss in first-round ISC action Sunday afternoon. “If it hadn’t been here, I wouldn’t be anyplace else…

ISC tournament returns to Q-C with a few changes

QUAD CITIES – When the International Softball Congress World Tournament came to Moline’s Greenvalley Complex two years ago, a lot had changed since the glory days of the 1960s and ’70s, when the tournament was played in the Quad-Cities 10 times in a span of 13 years.

When the tournament returns today, it will look very much as it did when it was here in 2009, other than the fact that it will have a few less teams and will be played in a few less days.

The ISC World gets under way tonight with two games at Greenvalley, then really gets going with 28 games Sunday…
