MOLINE, IL – The Quad Cities has been a hot bed of men’s fastpitch for decades. The cities of Rock Island and Moline, Illinois, and Davenport, Iowa have served as host cities for state, regional and national tournaments for both the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)and the International Softball Congress (ISC) World Tournament.

And in 2014, the Quad Cities added the North American Fastpitch Association (NAFA) to its long list of men’s fastpitch tournaments. Over 120 teams from the U.S., Canada and Japan played fastpitch from Aug. 7-17 and Sept. 4-7 battling for championships in 11 divisions, including five in the AA-Major, AA, A-Major, A, 23-Under Young Men’s, and six in the Masters (35-Over, 40-Over, 45-Over, 50-Over, 55-Over, and 60-Over).

The games were played at the Milt Hand Softball Complex within the Green Valley Sports Complex in Moline, and Campbell Sports Complex in Rock Island. Both excellent facilities for softball.

NAFA executives, players and fans, praised the facilities and the legions of volunteers for making the World Series one of the best in the history of NAFA.

“The Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau, The Quad Cities Sports Commission and The City of Moline were thrilled to add the 2014 NAFA World Series and Master’s East Championships to this distinguished list of tournaments,” said Lynn Hunt, Vice President of Sales at the Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau. “NAFA is all about the athletes’ experience, and our local organizing committee worked to deliver a great environment for the teams and their fans.”

So it comes as no surprise that NAFA wanted to return to the Quad Cities for the 2015 World Series.

“We are looking forward to 2015,” Hunt said. “New lights were installed this fall, and its just getting better here in Softball Town!”

The World Series begins with the A-Major Division on Aug. 6-9, continues with the A Division, Aug. 13-16; AA Division, Aug. 14-16; 23-Under, Aug. 14-16, and concludes Sept. 11-13 with the East Masters Division.

NAFA World Series, A Division has wide representation in Quad Cities

    Wednesday, August 6th, 2014

    nafa.ws.illustration.3Abw

QUAD CITIES, Ia/Il – It’s typical of A division teams of the NAFA World Series to field teams with good pitching. But not dominant.

So hitters tend to put the ball into play and runs are scored.

Seldom are there 1-0 or 2-1, 12 to 15 strikeout games. If so, then someone has slipped through the pitcher evaluation process that NAFA prides itself on in making sure the playing field is level for everyone.

So I’m pretty confident that the Forty four teams representing 15 states, along with the three from Canada, will have an even shot come Aug. 14 to 17 of taking home the championship.

The two states sending the most teams are Michigan with six and Wisconsin at five.

Here’s the bracket. Who do you think will be the team last standing on the far right side of the bracket come Sunday Aug. 17th?

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Twelve months a go, the Long Beach Wolfpack won the NAFA A Division World Series championship in Des Moines, Iowa.

They were a first-year ball club playing in their first NAFA World Series. And they came away with their first World Series championship.

But that was last year; it’s time to move one; time to challenge for back-to-back titles.

Wolfpack manager Jesse Mullen believes if his team plays up to its potential, they should be in the hunt.

“We are balanced offensively and defensively,” said Mullen, who is also the team’s catcher. “As a team, we believe in each other and we want to keep progressing and moving up.”
