RICE LAKE, Wisc. – After falling 7-5 to Ostrander Images in the winner’s bracket final, defending champion Tin Cup of Saint Paul posted four wins in a row including a pair against the same Ostrander squad, 4-1 and 5-1, in the championship series to capture the top spot in the 38th annual Rice Lake Invitational Men’s Fastpitch Tournament held in conjunction with the city’s Aquafest celebration. It was the second straight Invitational crown for Tin Cup.

The champs opened with a 6-0 win over Striker’s Lanes of Baldwin followed by a 6-2 triumph over the host team Rice Lake Orangemen to advance to their first confrontation with Ostrander. A 13-0 whitewashing of Odin Fastpitch of southwestern Minnesota paved the way for the championship rematch with Ostrander Images.

The Images of southeastern Minnesota opened tourney play with a 13-6 triumph over Odin and a 9-8 win over Meister Dairy of Muscoda, Wisconsin to reach the winner’s final versus Tin Cup.

Odin Fastpitch claimed third place honors and Striker’s Lanes finished fourth.

The local Orangemen opened the tournament with a 8-0 win over Ben’s Northern Bar-Eagle Strategies of Luck and followed with a 10-1 victory over Len’s Automotive of Saint Paul. After the 6-2 loss to Tin Cup an 11-2 defeat at the hands of Odin Fastpitch eliminated the Rice Lake squad from further play.

Cooley pitches all four games as Tin Cup of St. Paul wins the Cushing Memorial Tournament

CUSHING, Wisc. – His manager praises his effort, his heart, his talent, and his willingness to take the ball game after game. And all admirable qualities were in evidence as Joel Cooley pitched Tin Cup Restaurant and Bar of St. Paul, Minnesota to the 12th Annual Dugout Memorial Weekend Tournament title in Cushing, Wisconsin.

As a one-man pitching staff, the right-hander pitched every inning of four games, culminating with a 7-2 victory over instate-rival Ostrander Fastpitch to claim Tin Cup’s first title in the nine-team event.

      NOTCHING THE K’s

Cooley finished 4-0 and beat Ostrander twice, 2-1 on Saturday, and then again in the championship, where he struck out eight and allowed four hits. The right-hander hurled 28 innings with 45 strikeouts to emerge as the top pitcher in the tournament.

Tin Cup manager Dave Marchio might be a bit biased but he proclaims Cooley as Minnesota’s top pitcher.

“He’s got all three pitches, throws about 75 (mph), and is the best pitcher in the state,” said Marchio. “He is cerebral, nothing bothers him. He’s pitched every inning for us and is a good team leader by example.”

Wilber Lime wins seventh title in Rice Lake Aquafest

    Friday, June 29th, 2012

RICE LAKE, WI – It was the same two teams – Wilber Lime of Galesville and The Bar of Appleton Athletics – who locked horns in the championship game a year ago; and who now met once again, battling for the 34th annual 2012 Aquafest Men’s Fastball crown, June 15-17 at Tate Park in Rice Lake.

But this time the result was reversed as Wilber – the winners of six previous Invitational titles – rallied from a 7-2 second inning deficit to prevail in a slugfest, 15-7.
