Someone to know: Travis DeJong, NAFA 20th Year Anniversary player

Tuesday, July 24th, 2012

SIOUX FALLS, SD – It takes most young fastpitch players years before they stand shoulder-to- shoulder with the great veterans in the men’s game. But Travis DeJong appears to be an exception.

He’s just 26 and only been playing fastpitch full time since 2005. But what he has accomplished in the North American Fastpitch Association is quite remarkable.

As a catcher and first baseman for the Sioux Falls Sox and Kegal Black Knights of Fargo, ND, he’s won one NAFA World Series championship at the AA division in 2007, along with four All-World Selections.

Those achievements made DeJong a worthy selection to the NAFA “20th Year Anniversary Team.” A team comprised of the 36 top players who have achieved greatness over the span of NAFA’s 20 years (1993-2012) of World Series championship tournaments.

When notified of his selection, he said he was somewhat astounded and thrilled about having his name included with such a talented group of athletes.

“I am honored to be a part of this team,” DeJong said, who bats and throws right-handed. “Looking at the team, there are some very good ball players on the list, so to be selected to the team, I was very surprised, but excited.”

He says that winning the 2007 championship and being selected All-World are his biggest thrills. But at his young age – and in the prime of his career – he’ll probably be collecting a few more.
