United States routs Dominican Republic in 2015 Pan American Games

antonio.mancha.44 Tony Mancha (El Paso, Texas) fired a no-hitter and had two hits in leading the United States to victory in the opening game of the 2015 Pan American Games, Sunday.

TORONTO – The United States Men’s National Softball Team played nearly flawless fastpitch softball in overpowering the Dominican Republic 10-0 in its first game of the Pan American Games at President’s Choice Ajax Pan Am Ballpark, Sunday.

Led by Tony Mancha’s no-hitter and an offense that pounded out 11 hits, Team USA was never threatened in its lopsided victory over one of the world’s most powerful softball teams.

Muizelaar, Carmona and Castillo drive USA past Guatemala in consolation bracket

SASKATOON, SK, Canada – Freddy Carmona and Kevin Castillo drove in the runs and Gerald Muizelaar pitched a dandy as the United States defeated Guatemala 4-0 in the second round of the ISF Men’s World Softball Championship consolation bracket, Saturday.

The victory moves Team USA (1-0, 5-3) into the consolation bracket championship against Mexico, Saturday night. Mexico defeated Great Britain 7-5 to advance. The United States and Mexico met in Pool B round-robin play with Team USA taking a 7-0 victory.


Against Guatemala, Carmona drove a two-out, bases-loaded single into right-center field in the third inning plating two runs in helping Team USA take a 3-0 lead. Chris Miljavic and Derrick Zechman were hit by pitches, and Chris Heinlein walked to set the plate for Carmona.

Then in the fifth, Kevin Castillo lifted a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Nate Devine, who singled to lead off the inning.


Meanwhile USA right-hander Gerald Muizelaar (1-1) was pitching a gem and finished a strong seven innings, allowing just three hits, no walks along with 12 strikeouts.

Guatemala’s Jorge Segura (2-3) took the loss, going four innings and giving up two earned runs on three hits, five walks and six strikeouts. Cesar Sache finished the final two innings, allowing one run on two walks with two strikeouts.

Team USA collected four hits with Heinlein, Nate Devine, Castillo (RBI), Carmona (RBI), and Matt Palazzo getting one hit each.

Guatemala’s (1-1, 3-6) three hits came from Pablo Klee, Gerardo Dacaret and Marlo Hernandez.
