QUAD CITIES, IA/IL – If the Tin Cup men’s fastpitch team feels a little sore and tired, they really can’t be blamed.

In the past nine days (Aug. 13-21) the St. Paul, Minnesota squad has played eight games – three in the ISC World Tournament and five in the NAFA AA-Major Division World Series in the Quad Cities.

But for manager / designated hitter, Dave Marchio, it’s really not a big deal. His team is used to playing a lot of fastpitch.

“We’ve played about 65 games this year,” said Marchio at the NAFA AA-Major in Rock Island, Illinois. “We’re used to a lot of games.”

MOLINE, IL – Tyler Bouley and Dave Marchio provided the power and Joel Cooley pitched masterfully in leading Tin Cup of St. Paul to a 7-0 victory over Chettys Pretty Boys, Sunday night, at Green Valley Sports Complex.

Bouley (1-for-3) slugged a two-run home run in the first, and Marchio (2-for-3) put the game out of reach with a three-run blast in the fourth to seal the win and even Tin Cup’s record at 1-1.

Handed the generous run support, the veteran right-handed Cooley didn’t squander it. He was at the top of his game, firing a perfect game through four innings. His only stumble came in the fifth when Ryan Baptiste singled to open the inning. But Cooley’s rise ball coaxed a fly ball and he struck out the final two batters to end the game in five innings under the run-rule.

  • Now Tin Cup advances into Tuesday when they will meet the loser between the Elmira Expos and New York Gremlins at 10 a.m.
  • Tin Cup collected six hits with Sam Nieman, Pita Rona and Luke Wilhelmy getting one hit a piece, along with Bouley and Marchio’s game-winning contributions.
