NAFA request for World Series information needed now

Tuesday, August 7th, 2012

Three days from the start of the NAFA World Series and these ball diamonds will be busy with fastpitch action! The AA and A-Major divisions start the action on Thursday. See Play (below) for more information.

TOPEKA, KS – The start of the NAFA World Series AA and A-Major tournaments are two days away and NAFA needs confirmation that teams have their game starts times. Also, NAFA needs each team’s list of pitchers.

Along with rosters, which include full names, and jersey numbers. If you need a roster, please visit the new player and team statistics website at: Play NAFA, that does not replace NAFA’s primary website,

Please mail that information requested to today. And visit play NAFA for more current information.

Play NAFA is only the website where all future World Series stats for players and teams will be located. We are also trying to go backward and enter data from previous years as well.

    1. Check in time for each team WITH PICTURE ID is one hour prior to your first game at the complex where you start at.

    2. Tournament Opening Ceremonies (6 p.m. Thursday at Shawnee North Complex) with all teams in uniform is mandatory and will be just as awesome as it was last year with Hall of Fame Inductions of Ryan Nichols of the Blues, Dan Kolda of K Club, etc…

We will honor the founders of NAFA (We have 4 of the 7 attending). We will honor our 20th Year Anniversary NAFA Team (posted on the website).

Each team will be introduced during opening ceremonies with the information coming from your TEAM INFO SHEET that I emailed to you.

Fill it out and bring it to the ceremony and give it to me there. We will have an official welcome by the Visit Topeka organization, the Topeka Parks & Recreation Department, and the U.S. and Canadian National Anthems will be played.

Thank You,
Benjie Hedgecock
NAFA Executive Director

NAFA Celebrates 20th Anniversary In Topeka

Thursday, July 5th, 2012

By BENJIE HEDGECOCK / NAFA Executive Director

TOPEKA, KS – Join us for the 20th Anniversary of the North American Fastpitch Association’s World Series in Topeka from Aug. 11 to 19 in which six divisions (A, A-Major, AA, AA-Major, and ages 19-Under and 23-Under) will battle for World Series championships.

Our two very special developmental program events, the 19-Under (Aug. 11-12) and the 23-Under (Aug. 17-19) with late Friday night starts, look to have a great turnout as Kansas and Missouri have large high school boys’ fastpitch programs to build on.

We would like teams that are coming to the world series to allow their younger players to play on both their regular men’s team and in our youth program as we work very hard to make sure that the times don’t conflict.

The age eligibility rule: If you are age 23 on any day in 2012, then you are eligible. And the same rule applies for the 19-U division – if your are 19 on any day in 2012 you are eligible.

Pat Bucknell, putting teams and players first

Wednesday, June 13th, 2012

Without the inspiration and drive of Pat Bucknell to start NAFA, many players such as these, may not have had the opportunity to compete in a national tournament such as the 2012 NAFA World Series, which will be held in Topeka, KS from Aug. 9 to 19 where nearly 200 teams are expected to compete.

LACEY, WA – Perhaps the greatest lifetime epitaph one can hope for is “he gave something back.”

That pretty much summarizes Pat Bucknell’s long tenure with men’s fastpitch. For over 50 years Bucknell has given back to the sport he professes that he just can’t seem to pull himself away from.

He’s been a player and a manager competing in all the men’s fastpitch national tournaments: the International Softball Congress, the Amateur Softball Association, and the National Softball Association.

And of course NAFA – the North American Fastpitch Association that he founded 20 years a go in March. With Bucknell leading the way, NAFA opened up a whole new world of fastpitch for the male side of the sport.

“Pat Bucknell was instrumental in the development of men’s fastpitch at a crucial time in the sport’s history,” said Benjie Hedgecock, NAFA Executive Director. “His thinking was always years ahead; although, he always held to men’s fastpitch traditions. NAFA continues to be the leader by holding those traditions firm, while staying a step ahead by listening to what the teams’ want.”
