Nation’s best softball teams and stars compete in 2019 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – Softball fans could travel to all parts of the United States, Canada – in fact the world – and find no higher caliber of women’s fastpitch softball than at the 2019 Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic at Big League Dreams in Cathedral City, Feb. 21-24.

On hand for the 16th annual showcase were NCAA Div. I powerhouses such as the No. 2 ranked UCLA Bruins, 14-0, (5-0 Mary Nutter), Oregon Ducks, Arizona Wildcats, BYU Cougars, Kentucky Wildcats, Ohio State Buckeyes, North Carolina Tar Heels, Oklahoma Sooners, Washington Huskies…and the list could go on – included on that list was Japan’s national team.

The collegiate classic started with dreary, cold and rainy weather on Thursday, Feb. 21st, but on Friday the sun broke free under beautiful blue skies and warm temperatures that lasted through the final day on Sunday.

On a gorgeous Saturday, thousands packed Big League Dreams five ball diamonds to enjoy, applaud and cheer for many of the best softball athletes in the world.

    Oregon Ducks Win 12th Straight vs. Oregon State Beavers

    HawkinsDucks.1lr Cheridan Hawkins picked up two wins and a save in the three-game series against Oregon State. The lefty allowed just one unearned run on nine hits and one walk in 13 innings against the Beavers with 17 strikeouts.

    CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon’s senior class improved to 12-0 in their careers against Oregon State as the Ducks swept the Beavers for the fourth straight year with a 9-0, run-rule, win on Sunday afternoon.

    The Ducks (32-6, 10-2) have outscored Oregon State, 120-24, during the 12-game winning streak.

    Cheridan Hawkins, who picked up the win on Sunday, improved to 8-0 in her career against the Beavers. She has allowed just five earned runs over 38.1 career innings (0.91 ERA) against OSU with 48 strikeouts.

    Girls’ showcase fastpitch tournament coming to Beaumont and Hemet

    BAUMONT, CA – Beaumont-Cherry Valley Recreation and Park District will be hosting the Surf City Halloween Showcase Saturday, October 27 through Sunday, October 28, 2012. The tournament will be held in Hemet, and at the Noble Creek Community Park in Beaumont.

    Surf City Tourneys welcome all college recruiters to the showcase tournaments. There will be 150 teams competing in divisions of ages 16-Under and 18-Under in Beaumont and Hemet Diamond Valley Park from all over the country.

    From 50 to 60 girls will get college scholarships from these tournaments. The colleges include UCLA, Oregon, Washington, all Pac 10 schools and several from the East Coast area. There will be 60-70 college coaches here to watch the girl’s softball games.

    Bruce Blake, Athletic Coordinator for the Park District said:

    “We are lucky to have one of the largest college recruiting tournaments here in Beaumont.”

    The tournaments are open to the public and it is free to attend.
