Sport Science: The speed of fastpitch softball

Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013

OS.pitcher.7566web
Softball pitchers such as Oregon State’s Tina Andreana can fire the ball to home plate from 43 feet at upwards of 70 mph, which is equivalent to 90 to 100 mph in baseball hurled from 60 feet. Batters must have fast bat speed to catch up to fast-pitched softball. Photo By BOB OTTO

FROM ESPN – A fast-pitched softball can reach home plate in a split second…The balls come off the bat at speeds of 100 mph…Slap hitters can reach speeds up to 19 mph racing to first base, giving the infielder 1.5 seconds to field and release the throw in time for the out…

Fastpitch softball. It’s a game of speed. Watch this video. Very instructive. Very interesting. You will like it!… The Speed of Softball
