YUCAIPA, CA – The Thunderbirds pushed and challenged and threatened, but when the official blew the final whistle, the Fontana Steelers escaped with a 1-0 Citrus Belt League victory on Wednesday – leaving the Thunderbirds frustrated with yet another narrow loss.

The Thunderbirds have played well, but have lost three consecutive games by one goal in the past eight days: 3-2 to Fontana A.B. Miller; 1-0 to Redlands, and now 1-0 to Fontana, the league’s two-time defending champion.

But the loss to Fontana was especially frustrating. The half ended scoreless – still anyone’s game. The Steelers finally broke through and scored in the 47th minute of the second half on Johnathan Madrid’s breakaway goal.
